Re: This house believes social media is effective in bringing unity and peace to the world.

Well, I'd completely agree with the above expressed views, especially the emphasis on the use of social media to discuss world solutions. However, not to be too sceptical, I do not see a time so soon when social media will undergo that transformation. Untill social media changes from a place whence solace is sought - in the form of hilarious posts to cheer one up, a platform to pour out one's mood and attracting attention - I do not envisage a world peace-seeking social media era as yet.

Does the fact that single-sex schools integrate with 'brother/sister' schools mean students from such schools are well equipped to face the

We are aware that people from single-sex schools do have time to meet people from the other sex but does this mean that the time they get with the opposite sex make them individuals who are socially strong and capable to co-exist with the opposite sex? I leave the case with you fellow debaters...

Censorship hinders awareness of ongoing situations in the world. However Social Media has managed to survive this barrier as compared to other forms of media such as the press. Young people should know how to use social networks. Besides other motives they may have, I feel it is important for young people to take social media as a platfrom to engage with one another and share solutions to some of the world's issues. Distance, the need to protect one's name or racial differences are not barriers in this case. Social media has become a reliable means of passing messages in this day. Its usage has increased over the 21st century and there is no turning back. It is, however, disappointing when some people use social media as an attack frontier yet we seek to unite people over this platform. Personally, I think social media is effective in bringing unity and peace to the world if young people are taught and are willing to use social media for the right purposes. The world is what we make it and we can shape the world with our thoughts. Positive thoughts shared on social media are likely to diffuse across the world and unite minds to make this world one in unity.

Social media can be challenged by the notion of censorship but does this make social media irrelevant to uniting, particularly the youth to create a peaceful world?
